i can totally recommend the Glock19. Very reliable pistol, nice and compact, easy to holster, acurate, reasonably priced, and the metal slide gives it a nice kick.
dogsbody has a 23f so i'm sure you will get a few pointers from him too.
the only downside with having a full auto pistol is the gas consumption, but they are great fun to skirmish with.
if you like the glock you might also like the h&k usp

The UPS is a nice looking gun, but somehow I prefer the more simplistic look of the Glock. Plus it's 40 quid cheaper than the USP... that's an extra mag and a holster

I had a quick blast of Davy's G19 when I was down. It seems like a good solid pistol, with some nice power too. Before deciding though I'll take a look at some of the pistols the next time I'm down.
My CA36C, mags, batteries, etc, is all ordered and due to arrive on Monday ...4wks before I can use it though

Come on down Mike, we know you want to, give into the temptation....
I'm off on Monday, you can come down when your gun arrives and set it up at the mother-in-laws farm, she comes in handy occasionally( if she ever reads this, i'm ONLY JOKING) + we can do some CQB in the sheds to warm up. Ill even charge up some batteries for you.

Believe me I would love to nip down, but I don't get in from work until 6pm. So having just driven for an hour to get home I don't really envy the prospect of driving for another hour and a half.
